Rufforth village pond and Sand Dykes are two areas of land at the western end of the village that were traditionally used by the villagers of Rufforth.

The pond, was mainly used for the repairing of cart wheels made with metal rims. The metal was heated to put on wooden wheels and then driven through the pond water to cool and fix firmly. It was also an extra water supply when the village pump was busy or broken.

Sand Dykes, another wet area just beyond the pond and now planted up with Goat Willow, was used in days gone by for sand, mainly for building purposes and filling holes in the road and farm tracks.

Neither of these places are accessible to the public as they are on the road and back onto farmland but both are now looked after by the Parish Council as a small green environmental area.
