The parish council represents the two neighbouring villages that sit within the York West Ward of the city of York. It is made up of three elected representatives from Knapton and five from Rufforth.
Peter Rollings - Chairman
Peter Rollings has lived in Rufforth for nearly 40 years. Now retired, he was a director of a leading national business in the agricultural industry. Peter chaired the group that produced the Neighbourhood Plan for the Parish and has been a councillor since 2017 and Chairman since 2018.
Nick Murray - Vice Chairman
Nick has lived in Rufforth for nearly 40 years. Now retired, he was Proprietor and Director of a leading national Commercial vehicle manufacturing group and chairman of a national vehicle repairers’ council; he was active in the commercial vehicle industry for over 45 years.
Nick was a member of the Neighbourhood Plan group from 2015, joined the parish council in 2019 and was elected as Vice Chairman in 2022.
Frank Di Lorenzo - Rufforth
Frank has lived in Rufforth for 34 years. Now retired, he was a Senior Manager of a Leadership Team, for a leading multinational Retail Department Store chain for 40 years. In 2010 he opened, ‘The Old School Village Store and Tea Room’, in Rufforth, which he ran as Business Owner and Proprietor, until 2021.
Frank is married, with two children and two grandchildren. He was elected to join the Parish Council in 2023.
Vicks Kirk - Rufforth
Vicks Kirk (née Brown) has a long association with Rufforth having grown up in the village in the 80s and 90s and returning to the village in 2016 with her husband. Having previously served on the Parish Council in 2022-23, she is also actively involved with the Management Committee of the Village Institute and the Community Festival Committee.
Vicks has spent 23 years with the Civil Service and is currently employed in DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs).
Terry Edmonds - Rufforth
Terry has lived in Rufforth since 2020. Now retired, for 40 years he was a Principal Engineer and Senior Projects Manager for a number of the UK’s leading blue-chip companies engaged in nuclear fuel manufacturing, car manufacturing, and reverse logistics.
Terry has been Speed Watch Coordinator for Rufforth since 2022 and was elected to the Parish Council in 2023.
Suzie Flynn - Knapton
Suzie and her husband John have lived in Knapton for 9 years. Suzie is a full-time mum of two young children, as well as a part time self-employed HR Consultant.
Prior to having children, Suzie held senior Human Resources roles in large food retail and housebuilding organisations. Suzie joined the parish council in 2023.
Gary Thompson - Knapton
Gary has lived in Knapton with his wife Liz for 5 years. He was previously Deputy Headteacher of a leading grammar school with a subject specialism of design technology and for 10 years was a volunteer reserve officer in the RAF.
Gary now runs his own education business based in York and is currently Chair of Knapton Allotments Association. He joined the parish council in 2023.
Linda Young - Knapton
Linda with her partner, Walter, has lived in Knapton for almost 17 years. She qualified as a nurse and then spent almost 40 years working in health and social care.
With an interest in community engagement and wanting to make a difference, she was co-opted to the council in late 2022 and then elected uncontested in May 2023.
